Don't send your Christmas trees rot in a landfill! Drop them off at Cornerstone Park in Littleton or the Willow Spring Service Center in Centennial between Dec. 26 and Jan. 12 so that South Suburban can recycle them.
As part of our commitment to identify and apply sustainable practices throughout the District, the Sustainability Committee has been exploring the feasibility of a waste disposal alternative that will divert biodegradable waste from landfills. Composting food scraps cuts back on biomass taking up space in landfills, reduces methane emissions, and enriches local soil with nutrient-rich planting material. With these great benefits in mind, South Suburban recently launched a composting pilot project in partnership with Compost Colorado at two South Suburban facilities.
Load up on free mulch, just in time for gardening season! From now through the end of May, community members are invited to pick up mulch from the Willow Spring Service Center.
South Suburban will be creating fewer emissions this summer, as employees in the Parks Department were awarded funding to purchase electric lawn equipment from the Regional Air Quality Council’s Mow Down Pollution Public Entity Lawn & Garden Grant.
April is full of opportunities to celebrate the environment and protect the planet we call home! Join South Suburban at these green events throughout the month.
Wrap up the season of giving in an environmentally-friendly way with South Suburban’s free tree recycling service.
South Suburban’s Nature program is spreading its wings! Classes for explorers of all ages are now available in parks across the District.
