Youth Hockey at South Suburban

Our hockey instructors are some of the best in the region and are eager to help your kids expand their knowledge of the game, grow their skills and advance to the next level. Are your kids ready to play?

Instructional Programs

Focus on hockey skills in the new Learn to Play series for all abilities. Learn basic moves and then develop your technique with Mighty Mites (ages 4-8) or Mighty Warriors (ages 9-17). Play actual games in Junior Warrior House League (12U & 17U). Must provide your own gear. Learn to Skate Pre 1 & Pre 2 or Level 1 are a prerequisite for Learn to Play.

 

Mighty Mites

Ages: 4-8 years old
This class is part of our South Suburban Learn to Play program. It’s a 50-minute weekly class for 8 weeks. Learn basic hockey skills. Full hockey gear required. Players learn fundamental skills of skating with a stick and puck through station based practices. 
Prerequisite: Learn to Skate Pre 1, Pre 2 or MHM or private lessons with an approved coach

Mighty Warriors

Ages: 9-17 years old
This class is part of our South Suburban Learn to Play program. It’s a 50-minute weekly class for 8 weeks. Learn basic hockey skills. Full hockey gear required. Players learn fundamental skills of skating with a stick and puck through station based practices. 
Prerequisite: Learn to Skate 1 or MHM or private lessons with an approved coach

Mile High Mites

Ages: 5-9 years old
Learn to Play is a program that provides a unique opportunity for families to join the hockey community and for participants to develop fundamental skills to help them succeed both on and off the ice. Created jointly by the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) and the National Hockey League (NHL). Learn to Play’s goal is to inspire youth and welcome more families into the hockey community.

Prerequisite: Designed for first-time players between the ages of 4-9 years old. Participants are strongly encouraged to complete a “Learn to Skate” program at a local rink before signing up for the Learn to Play program. *Baseline skating skills necessary

6 weeks of on ice instruction (one lesson per week).

Junior Warriors House League

Arapahoe Warriors co-ed house league is open to all male and female players’ ages 9-17 years old who are new to hockey.  In order to be accepted into the program you must have completed at least one Learn to Skate or MHM session or with approval from the hockey office. 60 minute games every week providing players the opportunity to develop the basic hockey stills to try out for a recreational team in the near future.  1 hour 12 week non-checking, half ice 5v5 with goalies (pass the bag) league. 12U (ages 9-12) and 17U (ages 13-17) divisions offered.

Arapahoe Youth Rec Hockey

Rec Hockey

USA Hockey and the AYHL rec program encourages a non-competitive environment, in which children can learn basic skills of hockey without the distractions that are often associated with competitive travel hockey. Each team is estimated to have one practice, one game per week and two skills sessions per month. There are no games or practices during the Mile High Meltdown (President's Day) Tournament. 8U

  • Players will be placed on a team according to age and/or ability
  • Practices will be 1 HOUR cross ice with up to six teams per session
  • Increase opportunities for players to touch and handle the puck
  • Stress participation, fun and skill development
  • Provide a positive environment for learning the fundamental skills of hockey
  • Encourage creativity with and without the puck

10U Through 18U

  • Practices will be 1 HOUR of half ice with 2 teams sharing the ice
  • Games will be full ice
  • Scores and league standings are kept electronically
  • NO TOURNAMENT ROSTERS
  • AYHL recreation players cannot be rostered with another association
  • Teams play in the CRHL (Colorado Recreational Hockey League)
  • Teams are limited to two tournaments per season in addition to the Mile High Meltdown
  • Multiple skill sessions, taught by Thunderbirds coaches
  • 42 Ice touches

Arapahoe Youth Travel Hockey

Travel Hockey

The Arapahoe Youth Travel Hockey consists of AA, A, and B level teams.

  • There may be as many as 2-3 practices a week with additional time for off ice training.
  • Be prepared to sacrifice holiday breaks to attend tournaments.
